Your tasks
The potential toxicity of new chemicals and materials, particularly nanoparticles, is a major health and regulatory concern, but safety assessment during their development still relies heavily on in vivo studies. Therefore, new methods for a robust assessment of materials and chemicals are needed.
In the frame of this EU-funded project, you will work on the development of an in vitro 3D skin tissue/skin-on-chip model and study the response to novel materials and chemicals in collaboration with different labs all over Europe. For this, you will establish a system with perfusable vascular structure and biomimetic barrier properties using state of the art facilities and equipment.
Your profile
- PhD degree in biomedical engineering, cell biology or a related field
- Enthusiastic and curious personality
- High motivation to work in an interdisciplinary project
- Extensive experience with (3D) cell culture work (experience with in vitro 3D skin models or skin-on-chip models is considered a major advantage)
- Excellent skills at science communication (verbal and written)
This position (100%) is immediately available and for a period of three years with the possibility for an extension.
Our offer
- A highly stimulating research environment in the Empa laboratories in St. Gallen.
